Troy and Deb Tomlinson own and operate Tomlinson Farms, LLC, a 140-cow dairy farm near Arkansaw, Wisconsin.
They decided to try CRYSTALYX® after they received a dairy mailer from their local CRYSTALYX® dealer, Jerry Baier & Sons, Inc.
The started with Buffer-Lyx® in steel barrels, but have switched to the BioBarrel™. The reasons were pretty simple for Troy Tomlinson.
“I really like the BioBarrel™. I don’t have to return the barrel or worry about banging up the steel barrel with a skid steer. When they’re gone, they’re gone, and I just put another one out.”
The BioBarrel™ container from CRYSTALYX® is a non-returnable, true, Single Trip Container™ made of a ground straw and soy flour solution. As the CRYSTALYX® is consumed the BioBarrel™ degrades and disappears.
 “I have always put out free-choice buffer and could not seem to keep up with the cows’ consumption of the dry buffer,” Troy said. “Now that I’m using Buffer-Lyx®, my free-choice buffer consumption is half or less of what it used to be.”
Because they’ve had such good results with Buffer-Lyx® they have now begun using CRYSTALYX® Dry Cow Formula™ as well.
“I watch those cows and how they act around the barrels, and if nothing else, the cows get up a couple extra times a day to lick,” Troy said. “They also consume some TMR while they are up. I know they have their intakes due to the barrels. The molasses attracts them.” |
